Giving Day FAQ

What is Southern Giving Day?

Southern Giving Day is an opportunity for the southern community – alumni, parents, employees, students, and university friends – to come together and make a difference in students’ lives.

What makes my contribution on Southern Giving Day special?

Your gift has an even bigger impact starting November 7 than usual thanks to a handful of generous alumni and friends offering matching and bonus challenges. Gifts directed to The Southern Fund and the Student Scholarship fund will be matched and count toward additional bonus challenges. Gifts directed to other areas on campus will help Southern secure additional bonus challenges up for grabs.

Can anyone participate in Southern Giving Day?

Absolutely! Support from the Southern community is what makes Southern a remarkable place!

Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make on Southern Giving Day?

Yes. The minimum gift amounts is $5, and every gift makes a difference. The sky’s the limit for the impact that you want to make.

How are gifts to The Southern Fund and the Student Scholarship Fund used?

The Southern Fund is the lifeblood of the university. Gifts to this fund allows Southern to offer tuition at a 14 percent discount while providing the Southern Experience to over 3,000 students via a number of specialized programs such as top-notch speakers at weekly convocation programs, service-learning initiatives, and retention programs.

The Student Scholarship Fund provides need-based scholarships to worthy students year after year. For every $2,500 we have available in the Student Scholarship Fund, we can make sure that at least one student is able to bridge the financial gap and attend at Southern.

What are challenges?

Challenges are a great way to maximize the impact of your gift. Generous alumni and friends have provided funds to be unlocked upon achieving particular goals.
